Kathmandu: Nepali Congress (NC) leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala has emphasized the importance of transferring the Central Investigation Bureau and Department of Revenue Investigation from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) and placing them under respective ministries, as they were in the past.

During an interaction program organized by the Democratic Thought Society at his liaison office, Dr. Koirala urged the NC to promptly implement the decision it had already taken to move these agencies under the jurisdiction of line ministries. He believes that this move would help facilitate the democratic process and ensure fair investigations.

Dr. Koirala expressed concern over the lack of public trust in the fairness of investigations, citing cases where officers are held accountable, but decision-makers remain unscathed, such as in the Lalita land grab scam. He believes that transferring the investigation agencies to ministries would address such issues.

The leader also raised concerns about the ongoing pro-identity struggle in the Koshi province, emphasizing the need for careful measures to prevent any significant loss due to the unrest. He urged the society to conduct research on these issues and take necessary actions to avert malaises in education, corruption, impunity, and address the energy demands of the Nepali business community.

On the occasion, Society chairperson Kul Chandra Wagle demanded fair investigations into corruption cases and appropriate legal actions against those found guilty.

The Democratic Thought Society has its presence in all seven provinces with district committees in 71 districts. Since its inception, the society has been actively working towards institutionalizing democracy in Nepal.
